Buckhorn Exchange Travelogue
Saturday, 01 October 2011 22:45

Disclaimer:

bobcatWe must warn you, if you are a member of PETA, an animal lover, or anti-hunting advocate than the Buckhorn Exchange is not the place for you.  In all of Henry Zeitz’s travels he bagged more than his share of trophies and they are all displayed for the public to see and appreciate.  Lions and tigers and bears, oh my, a sperm whale dork too, you name it and it is probably been shot, stuffed, and displayed by none other than the founder himself.

The History:

outside3Opened on the 4th of July in 1933 and located at 20th and Market in Denver, Colorado, El Chapultepec, or The Pec as it is called locally, is nothing less than the essence of what is Drunken History.

The bar was founded by Jerry Krantz’s father-in-law as a simple beer and shot establishment featuring live country and mariachi music.   But, when Jerry took it over in 1958, that all changed.  Jerry had developed a deep love of Jazz music over the years and began featuring live Jazz almost immediately.   One of the first artist Jerry was able to book was Buddy Defranco, who changed everything for the The Pec after his performance. Double Eagle Travelogue
Saturday, 24 September 2011 07:32

The History:

derek_cheeseburgerThe Double Eagle Bar and Restaurant was built in the mid 1800's by the wealthy import/export Maez family as a lavish residence.  The building served as such until the 1960's when, for reasons unknown today, it was transformed into a cotton storage facility.  In 1970 a wealthy oil mogul by the name of Robert O. Anderson, purchased the building and turned it into a lavish and award-winning restaurant.  After purchasing the building, Anderson went straight to work renovating it- from the antique bar he purchased from the collector back east, to the original artwork form the late 19th and early 20th century, to the pressed tin ceiling, and right down to the chandeliers- Anderson spared no expense in making the Double Eagle THE bar and restaurant of SW New Mexico.
